ABOUT GRC

Army Engineers and USACE civilian employees are hard at work in Gulf Region Central, a region of Iraq that includes Baghdad.  GRC presently has 300 active projects valued at around $1.5 billion, with the number of projects and overall budget growing due to an improved security situation on the ground and an increase in Iraqi participation in funding.  Construction projects include wastewater and potable water facilities, primary and secondary schools, primary health-care centers, and infrastructure construction and renovation for the Iraqi military and National Police.

SUCCESS STORIES

Above Left:  The Anbar Judicial Complex is just one of many USACE projects meant to  help restore the Rule of Law in Iraq.  This $21.5 million construction and renovation project includes work on a central courtroom, investigation offices, judges chambers, security barracks, and more.

Above Right:  The new-construction Rusafa Justice Palace is another step in the right direction in restoring justice in Iraq.

Above Left:  Al Neel School is one of many modern elementary schools being built throughout Iraq.  While a comparable school in the U.S. would house approximately 250 students, Al Neel will provide education and hope for over 1,000 deserving Iraqi youth.

Above Right:  With access to clean drinking water continuing to pose a major challenge for the Iraqi people, the Karkh Water Treatment Plant is an especially welcome effort.  The success of this and similar such projects are critical if present day Iraq is to see an end to the widespread suffering caused by water-borne disease such as cholera and typhoid.
